Starting August 21st, 2024, Anova will introduce a subscription fee for new users of its sous vide cookers who want access to premium features via its mobile app. The fees, set at $1.99 per month or $9.99 per year, will apply only to users who create an account after that date.
and those who purchase an Anova cooker before August 21st can continue using all app features for free, though they will now need to create an account. The app offers additional functionalities, such as remote control of the cooker, temperature adjustments, cooking status updates, and access to recipes.
Anova CEO Stephen Svajian explained that the subscription model was necessary due to the growing demands on their resources, as the app’s usage has skyrocketed with the community cooking “100s of millions of times” using it. The fees will help maintain and enhance the app’s functionality.
While some users have expressed frustration with the change, Anova emphasized that this approach allows customers to choose if they want to pay for the extra features, rather than simply raising the price of its hardware.
