Android users in California can now add their driver’s licenses to Google Wallet as part of a pilot program that includes 1.5 million residents. Previously, digital IDs were only available through the state’s “CA DMV Wallet” app for iOS and Android.
Governor Gavin Newsom announced the update, highlighting the convenience of the mobile driver’s license program, which now integrates with Google Wallet.

California also recently revealed that Apple Wallet will support digital IDs soon. However, participants in the pilot program must still carry their physical IDs, as digital versions are only accepted at select retail locations, TSA airports, and not yet by law enforcement or state agencies, according to the California DMV.
