Jack Hatchett knew his pass was off the moment it left his hand during the 2022 World Ultimate Club Championships. The disc hung in the air for nearly 10 seconds before Marques Brownlee, playing for New York PoNY, leaped above two defenders and snatched it for a point. This athletic feat earned him the No. 2 spot on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” top plays that night.

For Brownlee, who is set to compete for Team USA at the World Ultimate Championships in Australia, balancing his tech career and Ultimate Frisbee comes naturally. Known as one of the most influential tech reviewers with 19.4 million YouTube subscribers, his opinions can make or break products. After he criticized the Fisker Ocean as “the worst car I’ve ever tested,” the company filed for bankruptcy, though Brownlee noted that the company’s struggles predated his review.

Brownlee’s love for Ultimate Frisbee began in high school at Columbia High School in New Jersey, where the sport was invented. After playing professionally since 2013, he finally achieved a long-time goal by making the mixed U.S. team for the World Championships. As a key defensive player, his height and skill make him a standout on the field. His tech fame follows him everywhere, with fans frequently stopping him for photos at tournaments, but Brownlee hopes to be recognized more for his play than his online presence.

Despite his busy schedule, Brownlee shows no signs of slowing down in either of his passions. He remains committed to both his tech reviews and his Ultimate Frisbee career, focusing on continuous improvement and enjoying the journey. As Team USA aims for gold at the World Championships, Brownlee’s presence will be crucial, both on and off the field.
